The start of a new chapter can be stressful, especially if you’re retired. While there is no way to make these changes easier, here are some tips to help you conquer and embrace a new beginning.

1. Break It Down

Just like breaking a large goal down into smaller ones can help it feel more accomplishable, so can breaking down a big goal make it more manageable. Example: If you are moving, see if you can break your move into three days instead of one. Or maybe you spend the day before setting up the utilities at the new place. This way, when you are tired from moving your stuff the next day, everything is already ready to go.

2. Find A Support System

Whether it’s a new city or a new job, make sure you have a support system in place. Even if they aren’t nearby, just having someone you can call with weekly updates can do wonders for managing your stress level. You can also build a new support system wherever you are. If you are new to a community or church, they will often have a designated person you can go to with questions. Maybe you can exchange numbers, grab coffee, or share a meal. You never know who could end up being your great new friend!

3. Have A Role Model

It’s important to have a role model for especially drastic changes, maybe someone who has made a similar move and thrived from it. This doesn’t have to be someone famous; it could even just be a family member. But whenever you find yourself stressed about your big change, remind yourself how your model handled it.

 4. Enjoy Yourself

Finally, don’t forget to have fun! This is a new beginning, and no matter what has changed in your life, there are likely to be a few growing pains. So, embrace all the new fun things and learn to laugh at yourself when you make mistakes. It’s all part of the process! And if you tell yourself, you will enjoy your change, chances are you will.

A new beginning can be a drastic change for anyone, but there are several things you can do to embrace and make the most of it. Just remember to break the change down, reference your support system or role model, and have fun! Before you know it, the new beginning will be your amazing new normal.
